Galerie 3Portes is pleased to present A Garden as Big as a Mustard Seed, Tassos Kaliakatsos's new solo exhibition at the gallery in Ioannina.

 

Five large-scale works have been selected from a total of around twenty, featuring scenography that plays with space. Accompanying the large paintings, which are placed on pedestals in the manner of sculptural objects, is Modest Mussorgsky's background music, creating a play of juxtapositions between them.

The exhibition's title refers to The Teachings of Painting from the Garden the Size of a Mustard Seed, also known as Kiai tseu yuan houa tchouan, an encyclopaedia of Chinese painting. This fundamental treatise brings together the oldest laws of Far Eastern aesthetics, and the information it provides on philosophical, historical, and technical levels makes it an invaluable working tool for Tasos Kaliakatsos.
